HUTCHINSON, Kan. – [March 2, 2026]- The City of Hutchinson will test outdoor emergency siren notification system on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. This test is part of Kansas Severe Weather Preparedness Week, taking place March 2–6, 2026.
This annual statewide initiative encourages residents to review safety plans and prepare for severe weather before storm season begins.
The outdoor siren system is designed to alert individuals who are outdoors to seek shelter immediately and turn on a television, radio, or weather radio for additional information. Sirens are not intended to be heard indoors and should not be relied upon as the sole source of severe weather notification.
Additional sirens may be heard on March 4 if further testing is necessary.
Since this test will occur on Wednesday, the City will not conduct regularly scheduled outdoor siren test on Tuesday of this week. Our standard siren testing schedule takes place on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at noon.
For more information about Severe Weather Preparedness Week, please visit the National Weather Service website or review the 2026 Kansas Severe Weather Preparedness Packet.
We encourage residents to use this week as an opportunity to ensure weather radios are functioning properly, emergency kits are stocked, and family communication plans are in place.
