HUTCHINSON, Kan. – This past weekend, the Hutchinson Police Department hosted their annual Awards and Recognition Ceremony honoring Hutchinson Police Department employees for their achievements throughout 2025. They also recognized community members for their outstanding service to the community.

Amongst the community members honored were Reverend Charles Crumble Sr. and the New Resurrection Church.

In the early to late morning hours of February 1st, 2025, an extremely large number of first responders from five local and state agencies were on scene in the 1000 block of East 3rd Ave, facing the cold with temperatures around 25 degrees. During this challenging time, the Hutchinson Police Department received word that the New Resurrection Church, located at 1001 E 3rd Ave, would unlock its doors, offering relief from the elements and the use of restroom facilities to those on duty.

The church’s generosity was greatly appreciated by all first responders who were able to take breaks from the cold as circumstances allowed. As the morning progressed Reverend Crumble Sr. informed us that the church would also be preparing lunch for all personnel.

Many first responders welcomed this hospitality, being served goulash and sandwiches along with an array of snacks, drinks and desserts. The congregation was fully engaged ensuring that responders had a warm place to rest and offering spiritual guidance if requested. Their unwavering support provided comfort amidst the traumatic scene.

The church remained open throughout the responders’ time on scene with staff continually communicating to identify additional needs. The compassion and assistance shown by the New Resurrection Church was invaluable, aiding officers, firefighters, agents and crime scene personnel in coping with the tragedy.

In recognition of their extraordinary support and generosity, we recognize Reverend Charles Crumble Sr. and the New Resurrection Church for their outstanding service to the community.
