Hutchinson Fire Department Announces Mitigation Burns for 2026

SHARE NOW

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Hutchinson Fire Department will conduct its annual mitigation burns on Wednesdays and Thursdays from January 21 through February 19, between 1100 and 1700 hours, weather permitting.

These planned burns are part of the department’s ongoing efforts to reduce fire risk and improve public safety by decreasing vegetation and other combustible materials in high-risk areas.

Burn operations will take place in the following locations:

  •  East 30th Street, from Inverness to Kent Road
  •  82nd Street and Plum Road, south to 56th Street, to address areas not fully burned during previous
    operations.
  •  69th Street, north of Sandhill State Park
  •  A small portion of Avenue G, from Haven/Buhler west to Kent Road

Mitigation burns help create wider non-combustible buffer zones by clearing roadside ditches and surrounding vegetation. These buffers reduce the likelihood of fire spreading into adjacent fields and neighborhoods.

The Hutchinson Fire Department asks residents to remain aware of burn activity in these areas during the scheduled times and appreciates the community’s cooperation as these important safety measures are carried out.
