Another round of torrential rainfall moved through portions of central and southwest Kansas Monday evening into early this morning. The heaviest rain reports came from northwest Pawnee and eastern Hodgeman counties, and in an area from Hutchinson to Inman. These rains prompted flash flood warnings for a number of counties late last night into early today.
The National Weather Service in Dodge City reported between 4.5 and 5.25 inches of rain fell south of Burdett, where some roads were washed out, with 3.7 inches reported near Hanston.
The heaviest rainfall in central Kansas was reported by a National Weather Service cooperative observer 5.5 miles south-southwest of Inman with 4.18 inches. Over three inches was reported in Inman and also around Buhler, with just under three inches reported in the city of Hutchinson, including a 2.92 inch report at Hutchinson Regional Airport.
In Hutchinson, police reported early this morning that Main Street between 15th and 18th Avenues had some 3 to 4 feet of water over it, with many reports of other streets being flooded.
In the McPherson area, most rainfall reports were between 1.5 and 2.5 inches, with some reports of up to three inches on the south edge of McPherson.
The National Weather Service said this morning more rain may be coming for particularly central Kansas this afternoon with high rainfall rates and flooding possible along with 50 mile an hour downburst winds. Additional rain chances are in the forecast for Thursday into Thursday night, with heavy rain and downburst winds also possible.
