Grand Staff Ministries to Hold 17th Annual Auction Banquet “If You Could See Them”

By Brenna Eller

BUHLER, Kan. — Grand Staff Ministries’ 17th Annual Live and Silent Auction Banquet “If You Could See Them” will be held on April 27, 2024, at the Mennonite Bretheren Church, 415 N West St, Buhler, Kan. starting at 5:30 p.m.

“Each year we are blessed to have our community’s support to raise funds for our mission work in eSwatini, Africa,” GSM Executive Director Becky Spencer said. “This year the proceeds will help us build an elementary school in the village of Sipete.”

Two care homes have been built for abandoned, orphaned, and vulnerable children on this site in the village. GSM has also built Little Lambs Preschool, which has served hundreds of village children since opening in 2018.

“We have a church plant on site that has given the women training in basket-weaving and sewing so they have their own businesses that allow them to feed their children,” Spencer said. “The school will have a tremendous impact on the children and village.”

On Saturday, April 27th, there will be a Silent Auction from 5:30 to 7:20 p.m. and dinner at 6:30, provided by Hickory Stik BBQ.

The Presentation and Live Auction will both begin at 7:30 p.m. Special music will be performed by the Armouraires out of Wichita.

Help GSM reach their fundraising goal of $35,000. Tickets are $20 per person. You can reserve your ticket at or call 620-543-6518 for help.

Grand Staff Ministries began serving children in AIDS-ravaged eSwatini, Africa, nearly 18 years ago in 2006. In an effort to rescue and save a huge percent of Swazi girls from rape, neglect, abandonment, physical, mental and emotional abuse, more funds were raised over the years, and the Shepherd’s Care Homes were opened in 2017.  The Shepherd’s Care Homes provide safe, Christian-based households with loving houseparents, and the girls are well-fed, educated and seen regularly by doctors and dentists.
