GOESSEL, Kan. — Goessel Mayor Ben Schmidt resigned on July 17 during the City Council meeting, effective immediately. In his letter of resignation, Schmidt cited family commitments in part for his decision.

He also noted a number of frustrations, in particular a recent survey that went to Goessel residence which contained a lot of negative feedback for city leadership, while at the same time only three people filed for the three city council positions up this year.

With Schmidt’s resignation, Council president Evan Esau was sworn in as mayor during the meeting. With the Council seat Esau will vacate to be filled by appointment at the August 21st meeting.
