Gas Leak Near Conway Closes US 56, Prompts Some Evacuations

McPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — As torrential rains fell over the McPherson area early this morning, McPherson and Conway firefighters along with the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office and McPherson EMS responded to the report of a flammable gas leak near Conway.

After the call came at 4:17 a.m., responding personnel were advised a well head for an underground storage cavern containing propylene had been damaged in the storm and product was leaking.

A small area around the site in the 600 block of US 56 was evacuated, and US 56 closed from the west edge of McPherson to the McPherson/Rice County line.
