Gary Sechrist and Bob Wedel Named 2025 Inductees in the Lyons Schools Hall of Fame

LYONS, Kan. — Gary Sechrist and Bob Wedel have been named the 2025 inductees into the USD 405 Education Endowment Association Lyons Schools Hall of Fame. They will be inducted into the Hall of Fame Tuesday, April 29th at a ceremony at the Lyons High School Wheaton Track prior to the running events at the CKTL track meet at approximately 6:00 PM.

Sechrist was the Lyons High School principal from 1996 – 2009. He then served as the USD 405 superintendent from 2009-2013. Prior to coming to Lyons, he had previously taught art at Smoky Valley USD 400.

During his tenure as LHS principal, Gary also served on the ESSDACK Executive Committee, Health Insurance Committee, and Superintendents’ Council. He served on the Kansas Educational Leadership Commission and the Kansas Commission on Teaching.

Mr. Sechrist was on the Board of Directors of the Kansas Association of Secondary School Principals and was the president in 2003-2004. He was recognized as the KASSP Principal of the Year in 2007.

Gary has also served on various community service organization boards and working groups. He is currently a Leadership Consultant with the Kansas Association of School Boards.

Bob Wedel began his service in USD 405 in 1968 as a math teacher at Lyons High School, during which time he also coached basketball and track including three years as head basketball coach.

Wedel became Lyons High School principal in 1971, serving in that position until 1996 when he was succeeded by Sechrist. Wedel is also a member of the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame, inducted in 2017.
