JETMORE, Kan. — You often see stories about electric utility crews being called upon to assist in other areas of the country to help with major power restoration efforts… Think of hurricane released storm damage.
Earlier this week, power crews from Garden City, McPherson and Pratt responded to help the city of Jetmore restore power to some rural customers after winds estimated at 85 miles an hour blasted southwest Kansas.
Through Kansas Municipal Utilities, which facilitates the Kansas Mutual Aid Program for Utilities, they coordinate sending of crews from city-operated electric systems to assist others in situations such as this.
As an example, the McPherson Board of Public Utilities dispatched a five-man crew along with a digger derrick and bucket truck to help in the rebuild of a three-phase line and replacement of 26 poles to restore power to rural customers of Jetmore’s city electric utility.
Crews from the three cities had the line rebuilt and power back on by late Wednesday night.
