LYONS, Kan. — A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched for the family of Lyons News reporter Manuel Gomez, who was injured at last Friday’s Lyons High School football game.

According to Cody Luck, who set up the fundraiser, Gomez was on the sidelines gathering photos and stats for the game when a group tackle came out of bounds and he got caught up in it, sustaining a broken tibia and fibula.

After initial treatment by LHS staff, Rice County EMS took him to the hospital for surgery. Monday, Luck gave an update that Gomez had a successful surgery, has been released, and is currently at home.

Luck said Manuel and his wife Kathi are both kind souls that would help anyone in need.

Luck set up the fundraiser to help Manuel Gomez and his wife with medical bills, fuel costs, and other expenses, and can be found on GoFundMe at Rally Around Our Own.
