ABILENE, Kan. — A Florida woman is in custody after allegedly cashing forged checks with stolen identification at an Abilene bank and later leading law enforcement on a tri-county chase.
Abilene Police said last Thursday they began investigating a theft report at Astra Bank on Eagle Drive, in which six thousand dollars was obtained. The same suspect is believed to have passed checks at a bank in Belleville earlier in the day.
Friday, the woman came back through the drive-thru and tried to cash additional checks. After officers arrived she took off and a chase ensued that went through Dickinson and Marion counties before she was stopped by Harvey County Sheriff’s Deputies.
The suspect, identified as Wanda O’Shields of Okeechobee, Florida, is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail on multiple forgery and theft charges there.
