Four Reno County Law Enforcement Officers were part of the 357th Basic Training Class of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center near Yoder who graduated Friday.
Thee of the officers are from the Hutchinson Police Department, including Carrie Haumount, Raylee Johnson and Kyle Miller, who will begin their field training within HPD in a couple of weeks. Also part of the class from Reno County is Geranie Haynes from the South Hutchinson Police Department.
Graduation Speaker for the class was US Senator Roger Marshall, whose father was Chief of Police for many years in El Dorado. Senator Marshall congratulated the officers on their completion of the 14 week class which involved 560 hours of intensive training.
“You worked hard, sacrificed much, and eared the right to wear that badge,” the Senator told the graduates, also thanking the family, friends, and fellow officers for their support. Acknowledging there be some tough days in their career, he encouraged them to be a good listener, offer encouragement, and sometimes give them space. The rewards, he continued, will come when you see them saving lives and showing compassion their people’s darkest hours.
23 law enforcement officers from across the state were part of the class, which provides the initial training required for certification as a law enforcement officer in Kansas.
