(December 21, 2025) — Four people have died over the weekend in traffic accidents around Kansas as of Sunday morning.
Friday evening, a 77-year-old Riley man, Thomas McHugh, was crossing US 77 near the US 24 junction on the north edge of Riley, northwest of Manhattan when he was struck by a southbound vehicle, landing in the northbound lane where he was struck by a second vehicle. McHugh died at a Manhattan hospital.
Saturday morning, a Rock Valley, Iowa woman, 72-year-old Arlis De Weer, died when the pickup she was a passenger in was struck by a semi it pulled into the path of as it was exiting a truck stop on the east side of Liberal. The driver of the pickup was taken to a Wichita hospital with reported serious injuries, and the driver of the semi was checked out at a Liberal hospital.
Saturday night, a Phillipsburg man, Cody Harmon, 33, died when his car went off a road in far southeast Graham County about three miles west of Palco and into the ditch where it struck a tree. Harmon was pronounced dead at the scene.
Early Sunday morning, Nicklas Thompson, 37, of Pittsburg died when he was struck while walking on a Crawford County road southeast of Pittsburg. The driver of the car involved was taken to a Pittsburg hospital with reported minor injuries.
