(December 25, 2025) — Four area residents were injured in Christmas Eve and Christmas Day crashes.
Curtis Moss of Lindsborg was taken to a Wichita hospital with reported minor injuries after his motorcycle, which was northbound in the left lane of I-135 near First Street on the east edge of Newton Wednesday afternoon struck the rear of a pickup that had moved from the right to the left lane to pass another vehicle. The Kansas Highway Patrol said the driver of the pickup, Brian Voth of Newton, escaped injury.
A Newton man was injured Wednesday night when his car went off US 77 in Geary County. The Highway Patrol said Joshua Mercer was southbound on 77 about two miles south of I-70 when he entered the west ditch and continued south until coming to a rest. Mercer was taken to a hospital in Junction City with reported serious injuries.
Two people were injured in a Christmas morning crash on K-4 about 4 ½ miles east of Bushton. The Highway Patrol said a pickup driven by Layne Vaughan-Meier of Lorraine was southbound on 10th Road about 9 AM when it missed a stop sign at K-4 and struck the side of an eastbound pickup driven by Gregory Akers of Russell.
Vaughan-Meier and a passenger in his vehicle, Russell Lane of Lorraine, were taken to Ellsworth County Medical Center, Lane with minor injuries and Vaughan-Meier to be checked on a complaint of pain. Akers and a passenger in his truck were not injured.
