HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Fire Department (HFD) crews were dispatched to a house fire reported at 547 E. 1st St., Hutchinson Monday morning at 4:20 a.m.
According to HFD Chief Steven Beer, crews found heavy smoke pushing from the attic upon arriving at the two-story single-family residence. They began offensive operations to attack the fire, coordinating with truck companies on scene to ventilate and allow crews on the second floor to extinguish the fire.
There were four adults and multiple pets in the house at the time of the fire. They were able to self-evacuate prior to the fire department’s arrival according to Chief Beer. Crews did find two dogs while searching the home and returned them to the owner.
Because the house had multiple roof lines, crews had to expose a large portion of ceiling and shingles to find all hidden fires.
The Fire Marshalls office is currently investigating the fire, and a cause has not been determined at this time.
For their assistance in the incident, HFD thanked Reno County Emergency Communications, Hutchinson Police Department, Reno County EMS, Evergy, Kansas Gas and 1-800-BoardUp.
