A former wrestling coach at Salina Central High School is facing federal charges alleging he clandestinely (secretly) filmed minors showering during a high school sporting event in 2024. Ryan Brungardt, 37, is charged with two counts of production of child pornography and one of attempted production of child pornography.

Brungardt, who also worked at Lakeview Middle School in Salina, is alleged to have used a cell phone to record three minors while they were showering in a locker room at Newton High School during their Tournament of Champions in January 2024.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, along with Salina and Newton Police investigated the case, and they are in the process of reviewing additional seized cell phone videos recorded at other meets in Newton and Salina along with Garden City and Hays during the 2023-24 school year.

Anyone having information or who might have witnessed suspicious activity is asked to contact the KBI at 785-600-8790 or go to www.kbi.ks.gov/sar.

Brungardt made his initial court appearance before a federal magistrate in Wichita on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 and will have a detention hearing Monday.
