RENO COUNTY, Kan. — The Food Bank of Reno County will celebrate the Grand Opening of its new facility at 921 E. 4th Street on Thursday, March 12, marking a major milestone made possible by the successful Nourishing Our Future capital campaign and strong community partnerships.

The new facility will also allow the Food Bank to deepen collaboration with community partners, including First Call for Help, which will offer on-site services to help connect individuals and families with additional resources. This partnership strengthens the Food Bank’s ability to address food insecurity alongside other essential needs.

The grand opening celebration, sponsored by Dillons, will feature a series of events throughout the morning, welcoming donors, partners, and the public into the Food Bank’s new home.

Grand Opening Schedule — Thursday, March 12

  • 9:00–10:00 a.m. — VIP reception
  • 10:00–11:00 a.m. — Ribbon cutting ceremony and open house
  • 12:00 p.m. — Facility opens to customers for regular business operations and shopping

“This new facility represents what can happen when a community rallies around a shared vision,” said Angela Penner, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Reno County. “Because of the success of our capital campaign, we are stepping into a space that allows us to serve more people with fewer barriers and greater dignity. We are excited to officially open our doors.”

The Nourishing Our Future capital campaign exceeded its $1 million fundraising goal, raising $1,115,900 to support the renovation and equipping of the new facility. In addition to completing construction, the additional funds helped address unexpected costs and ensured the Food Bank enters this new chapter on strong, sustainable footing.

Dillons Partnership Continues with Community Food Drive

As part of the grand opening celebration, the Food Bank of Reno County and Dillons will continue the momentum with a community food drive on Friday, March 13 at the Dillons Marketplace, 3200 Plaza E Dr. During the event, Dillons will match food donations up to $20,000, doubling the impact of community donations.

Following the food drive, community members will have an opportunity to volunteer at the Food Bank on the afternoon of March 13, helping sort and prepare donated items for distribution to local families.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Dillons for their continued partnership and generous support,” Penner said. “Their sponsorship of our grand opening and commitment to matching gifts during the food drive will make a meaningful difference for the customers we serve.”

The Food Bank of Reno County invites the community to attend the grand opening, participate in the upcoming food drive, and volunteer as the organization begins this exciting new chapter.
