RENO COUNTY, Kan. – Thanks to overwhelming community generosity, the Food Bank of Reno County has raised $1,115,900 through its Nourishing Our Future capital campaign, exceeding its goal and securing a strong foundation for the organization’s future. The campaign’s success supports the completion of the Food Bank’s new facility while providing added resources to manage unexpected construction costs and ensure long-term operational success.
“We are truly grateful for the community that rallied behind the Food Bank’s dream of a better future,” said Angela Penner, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Reno County. “Every contribution helped bring us into a new facility that allows us to serve more customers with fewer barriers, in a space that finally meets the needs of our staff, volunteers, and the people we serve.”
Funds raised through the campaign supported the renovation of the Food Bank’s new location at 921 E. 4th Street in Hutchinson, transforming the space into a modern, welcoming facility designed to increase efficiency, dignity, and access for neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
Impact of the Campaign
- Expanded Capacity: The new facility offers nearly three times the space of the previous location, enabling increased food storage, improved volunteer workflow, and greater service reach.
- Improved Access to Fresh Foods: Expanded refrigeration and freezer capacity allows the Food Bank to accept and distribute more fresh and perishable items.
- Enhanced Customer Experience: A more welcoming, thoughtfully designed space improves customer flow, privacy, and dignity, reducing barriers to service and creating a more positive experience for those seeking assistance.
Grand Opening & Public Opening Dates
The Food Bank of Reno County invites the community to celebrate this milestone:
- Opening for Customers: March 3 — The Food Bank will begin serving clients from the new facility.
- Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting: March 12 — A public celebration made possible through a partnership with Dillons, who is sponsoring the event. The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce will oversee the official ribbon cutting ceremony, joined by community leaders, campaign supporters, and partners.
“This new facility represents what’s possible when a community comes together,” said Penner. “We are deeply grateful to every donor and volunteer who helped make this vision a reality.”
