SOUTHEAST, Kan. — Flood warnings have been posted for the Neosho River from the Iola area downstream. At Iola the Neosho is forecast to rise above the 15 feet flood stage late this afternoon (Sunday, June 9), and crest at 16.5 feet just after midnight tonight, falling below, returning below flood stage overnight. At Chanute, the Neosho will crest at 24.4 feet, 1.4 feet above the 23 feet flood stage Monday morning.
Pottawatomie Creek north of Garnett is forecast to crest at 28 feet this afternoon (Sunday, June 9) and fall below the 26 feet flood stage late tonight.
The Marmaton River at Fort Scott is forecast to crest at 38.4 feet just after midnight tonight, just above flood stage of 38 feet.
Aerial flood warnings are up until 1 PM Sunday for Anderson and northern Coffey counties, where between 2.5 and 6 inches of rain is estimated to have fallen, and for Bourbon County until 2:30 PM.
The National Weather Service reported .48 of an inch at Allen County Airport and .99 of an inch at Chanute. Cooperative Reports from the Wichita NWS office as of 11 AM included 1.21 inches east of Chanute. 2.36 inches at Moran, and .49 of an inch at Neodesha. Cooperative Reports from the Topeka NWS office include 1.55 inches at Colony, and 2.39 inches at Gridley.
