Five Crash Fatalities Reported by Kansas Highway Patrol Over the Weekend

The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) reported five vehicle fatalities over the weekend of March 20 – March 22.

Dennis Simonton, of Richmond, Mo., passed away on Friday in a crash in Jewell County. Simonton was driving Southbound on Randall Road in Jewell County 4.9 miles South of the city of Randall. He lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway to the East into a field. The vehicle rolled multiple times and came to rest on its roof in the East ditch. 

Dejuanique Edmonson, 27, of Concordia, was killed Friday evening when the car she was a passenger in went off the Kansas Turnpike north of El Dorado.  Edmonson and two other people in the car were ejected. Those two and the driver of the car were taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with reported serious injuries.

A 69-year-old man identified by KHP as Mickey Mitani from Bellevue, Neb., was killed Saturday morning in a vehicle crash at the I-135/K-61 interchange southeast of McPherson. Mitani was eastbound on K-61 when he failed to negotiate the left hand turn to the northbound I-135 on-ramp, his vehicle going airborne coming to rest on its top just over 300 feet east of the interstate. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Saturday night crash in the northern Jefferson County town of Winchester claimed the life of 83-year-old Connie Wistuba of Winchester, whose vehicle drifted off a street and struck a building.

Early Sunday morning, Jacob Vonweller, 47, of Osawatomie died when a car hauler he was pulling caused his pickup to go out of control on US 169 just northeast of Osawatomie and overturn in the center median. Vonweller and a passenger in his pickup who was taken to a Kansas City area hospital with reported serious injuries, were both ejected from the vehicle.
