HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The fate of the race track at the Kansas State Fair is expected to be decided Tuesday evening.
The Kansas State Fair Board will be having a special meeting at 5 p.m. in the Administration Building of the Fairgrounds. This meeting is a follow-up from a public meeting last week attended by a large crowd that asked the Board to reverse a decision made a year ago to remove the historic half-mile oval.
At last week’s meeting two proposals were presented to the Board to continue the track, one from long time race promoter C. Ray Hall and the other from Mel Hambleton Ford of Wichita. Hall proposed a plan where the annual rental payment for the Hutchinson Nationals event he’s been involved with for many years, while a much more comprehensive proposal was presented by Mel Hambleton general manager Phil Nightengale.
Parts of this meeting may be held in an executive session, which if specific financial information is needing to be discussed would be permitted under the Kansas Open Meetings Act.
For those not able to attend the meeting in person, it will be available via Zoom. The meeting ID when you log in is 823 6604 5495 and the passcode is 284550.
