JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. — A retired educator in Buhler USD 313 died over the weekend in a crash in Johnson County.
Lenexa Police said Susan Cameron died at the scene of the crash about 5:30 p.m. Saturday at College Boulevard and Lackman Road when the car she was in was rear ended. Her husband Don was driving the car, and received critical injuries although police are saying Don is expected to recover. Kansas City news outlets report the driver of the other vehicle, identified as Vincente Perez of Barstow, California, has been charged by the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office with second degree murder, DUI, having an open container and driving with a suspended license.
Susan Cameron taught 1st grade at Union Valley Elementary School for many years prior to retiring, and was the daughter of long-time USD 313 Superintendent Bob Burkholder, who the district’s Administration Center is named for.
Don Cameron during his long education career served as an administrator and coach at Buhler High School and for many years coached boy’s basketball for many years at Newton High School, also coaching at Canton-Galva.
In a statement Monday, USD 313 Superintendent Cindy Couchman said both Susan and Don touched many lives in the community and asked for the Cameron Family to be lifted up in prayer at this time. Service arrangements for Susan Cameron are pending at this time.
