HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Family Community Theater presents Disney’s Aladdin Jr., a 60-minute musical adaptation of the 1992 Walt Disney Animation Studios film Aladdin. The story on which Aladdin JR is based, “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp” has its origins in One Thousand and One Nights, a collection of ancient Arabian folk tales compiled around 1710. The adventures of a street urchin who uses genie-power to win a kingdom and woo a princess is one of the most popular tales from the Islamic Golden Age.
Songs from the Disney film include “Arabian Nights,” “One Jump Ahead,” “Friend Like Me,” “Prince Ali,” and “A Whole New World.”
The Family Children’s Theatre production has a cast of 31, all of whom are 18 or under. There are nine actors/actresses appearing with the Family Community Theatre stage for the first time. Craig Williams directs the play with assistance from April Basgall.
