Election day has arrived in Kansas, and polls are open from 7am to 7pm statewide.
Some races have garnered nationwide attention with Kansas possibly making an unexpected impact on Congress. Today, voters will choose to re-elect Senator Roger Marshall – or send Democrat challenger Adam Hamilton to Washington, DC. Kansas has not elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since 1932.
Voters will also choose which party will lead the state from Topeka as Governor, with Republican State Senator Ty Masterson facing off with Democrat State Senator Cindy Holscher.
In the Big First District, voters in 60 Kansas counties with decide whether to reelect incumbent Republican Tracy Mann or swing support to Democrat Lauren Reinhold of Lawrence.
Kansas voters are also weighing a proposed amendment to the state constitution. The 2026 Citizenship Voting Requirement Amendment would change the language from saying “every citizen” who meets age and residency rules can vote, to “no person” can vote unless they are a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and living in the area.
Recount?
What if the results are razor thin?
According to the Kansas Secretary of State’s office, “Any federal, statewide, or state legislative race that is within 1% of the total number of votes tallied on election night shall be audited.”
