HUTCHINSON. Kan. -(December 16, 2025) – At 0314 hours, the Hutchinson Fire Department responded to the 700 block of East 3rd Avenue for a report of a structure fire. First arriving units found a 2.5-story, balloon-frame, multi-family residence with fire and smoke showing from the exterior.
Crews initiated a rapid fire attack while simultaneously evacuating all occupants from the structure. The fire was brought under control quickly, and a primary search confirmed that all residents had exited the building safely.
A total of eight occupants were displaced as a result of the fire. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The residence sustained moderate fire damage to two apartments and smoke damage to others. The residence is currently without gas and electric, making it uninhabitable.
Red Cross was called to the scene and provided care for the eight displaced occupants. 5 dogs were also put into Red Crosses care.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and electrical in nature. Nails and screws were noted going through exterior aluminum siding into the electrical lines of the home.
