HESSTON, Kan. — An early morning fire damaged a home in Hesston on Monday. Hesston Fire/EMS Chief Zach Bergen said units were called at about 2:15 a.m. to the 500 block of North Weaver.

The first unit to arrive reported smoke visible from the roof vents of a single-story residence, whose residents evacuated prior to Fire/EMS arrival. A small fire was located in the attic and was declared under control about 30 minutes after the first call came in.

Halstead and Newton fire units also responded on mutual aid to assist with the fire and provide Fire and EMS coverage while the fire was going on, with Hesston Police providing traffic and crowd control.

The scene was cleared about 6:30 a.m. The cause of the fire was listed as accidental.
