HUTCHINSON, Kan. – [February 27, 2026]- The City of Hutchinson is notifying residents and contractors of a recent scam attempt involving an individual impersonating Community Development Director Matt Williams.
The fraudulent message requested payment of an invoice via wire transfer. The City wants to make clear that this email did not originate from the City of Hutchinson, and there has been no compromise of City email systems or internal accounts.
Official City email addresses end in @hutchinsonks.gov. Residents and contractors are encouraged to carefully review the sender’s full email address before responding to any payment-related communication.
The City of Hutchinson will never request payment by wire transfer.
If you receive an email that appears suspicious or includes an unusual payment request, do not respond or send funds. Please contact the Community Development Department directly at 620.694.2630 with related questions.
Anyone who believes they may have received a fraudulent email related to this incident is asked to forward it to [email protected] for review.
The Hutchinson Police Department is investigating the matter.
