City of Hutchinson Announces Union Pacific Railroad Crossing Closures

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The City of Hutchinson has been notified by the Union Pacific Railroad about upcoming railroad crossing closures that will affect traffic flow in several areas beginning Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025.

Upcoming Railroad Crossing Closures:
  • The crossings at 17th Avenue, 6th Avenue, and 4th Avenue will be fully closed. Traffic will be detoured to 11th Avenue. The specific detour route is unknown at this time and is managed by a third party. A map will be provided when more information is available. 
  • 11th Avenue will remain open, but crews will also be making repairs in that area. A flagger will be on site to help move traffic safely through the work zone.
  • Lorraine Street and 2nd Avenue railroad crossing will be closed.

Drivers are encouraged to plan travels ahead of time and use alternative routes if they can. The City advises drivers to be cautious in work zones and follow directions of signs and flaggers for drivers’ safety and crews.
