Centre USD 397 Bus Involved in Wednesday Morning Crash

A Lost Springs man was injured Wednesday morning when his pickup collided with a Centre USD 397 school bus about three miles west of Lost Spring in Marion County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said Michael Walsh was eastbound on 340th Street just east of Sunflower Road when he apparently fell asleep and went into the eastbound lane where it struck a school bus head-on.

Walsh was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion with reported serious injuries. There were seven students on the bus, one of whom had possible injuries but didn’t go to the hospital. The driver of the bus also was not injured.

USD 397 Superintendent Dan Ackland said the driver of the bus came to a complete stop and honked a couple of times before it was struck, which helped minimize the impact of the accident. Students were taken to school on a separate bus.
