McPHERSON, Kan. — A Celebration and Dedication was held this week for the Eagle Scout project of Brooke Henry, a member of Scout Troop 1000, which meets at First Presbyterian Church, 1400 N Main in McPherson. Eagle Scout service projects are designed to help young scouts learn the values of service, leadership, planning and communication.
Brooke’s Eagle Scout project was the “planning and construction of a new adjustable basketball goal” in the church parking lot to be used by the neighborhood. Brooke researched which goals would be best for a public use area; she developed the plan and obtained quotes for the purchase and installation; she coordinated with a local contractor, J P Construction, for the installation; she planned a completion celebration.
The basketball goal is now complete and open to the public. The adjacent playground and disc golf course are also available to the public and the church encourages their use by neighbors and the general public. Brooke is pictured in the center on the front row with the basketball goal in the background.
