CANTON/GALVA, Kan. — The final results are in from last week’s Canton-Galva USD 419 bond election.

After the canvass of votes by McPherson County Commission Monday, the final result was 320 votes in favor, 147 against.

McPherson County Clerk Hollie Melroy said eight of nine provisional ballots were included In the count, most of which involved people who moved within the district. Two of the ballots involved law enforcement officers whose addresses are kept confidential per state law and as such have to vote by provisional ballot in any election.

One ballot involved a person who applied for a mail ballot but never received it and as a result voted at their polling place. Another involved a ballot that came in during the three-day grace period after election day, a practice that is being eliminated in Kansas. The one ballot not counted was from a person who was not registered.

The $4.275 million bond issue will fund construction of a new vo-ag building at Canton Galva High School, a covered entryway near the bus drop-off for Canton-Galva Elementary School, and various roof repair, HVAC upgrades, and a new track at the high school plus associated site improvements.
