Canton-Galva Teacher Dies from Injuries in Friday Crash

McPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — A Canton-Galva High School teacher has died from injuries sustained in a December 15th crash. USD 419 Superintendent Jim Struber announced Wednesday agricultural education teacher Ashley Austin passed away Tuesday night at a Wichita hospital, where she was taken after a three-vehicle accident on US 56 between Canton and Galva.

Students at the Junior-Senior High School in Canton and Elementary School in Galva had access to counselors Wednesday, and will be available today, information on which was sent in an email message.

USD 419 will not have classes Today, which was to have been the last day of school before the Christmas break.

In a social media post, Ashley’s husband Kane Austin thanked everyone for their love and support over the last few days. The post said “I can only imagine what my bride is seeing and experiencing firsthand tonight. She is home with her creator,” adding, “The prayers were so appreciated and answered as she is in no pain and in paradise.”

The McPherson County Sheriff’s Office reported last Friday preliminary investigation and witness statements indicated a vehicle had crossed the centerline of US 56 near 24th Avenue just before the collision.
