RENO COUNTY, Kan. — Just after 1pm, the Hutchinson Fire Department responded to the 1800 blk of South Buhler Road for a brush fire. First arriving crews were met with heavy smoke conditions that were drifting across Buhler Road. RNSO was requested to shut down Buhler Road in both directions. Approximately 25 acres of prairie grass was burning along with 7 brush piles and 1 pile of tires. Due to the muddy conditions from recent rains, crews had to resort to using UTVs and hand work. The fire damaged 1 Evergy electrical pole and was contained to 25 acres of the 158-acre lot.
Crews remained on scene for multiple hours extinguishing hot spots. No injuries were noted. The fire was caused by an out-of-control prescribed burn.
Hutchinson Fire would like to thank the Buhler Fire Department, RNSO, Reno County Emergency Communications, Hutchinson Public Works, and Evergy for their help.
