HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The September meeting of the Board of Trustees of Hutchinson Community College began with a pair of hearings, one pertaining to the College’s Revenue Neutral Rate and the other regarding the 2023-24 budget.

Following the hearings, the board approved the budget after a presentation by Julie Blanton, Vice President of Finance and Operations. The budget includes a mill levy set at 21.829, the same as the year prior and its lowest level in at least ten years. Tuition and fees are each slated to increase by $2.00 per credit hour. The $10.00 per credit hour reduction for Reno County residents remains in place.

The Board welcomed three groups of students, the Student Government Association (SGA), Resident Assistants (RAs) and the Ambassadors. SGA participates in governing school activities, providing social activities, and representing the student body in student affairs issues with administration and faculty. The main focus of RAs is managing their dormitory floor as well as planning and implementing social and educational programming. The Ambassadors is a group of students that provide tours to prospective students and their families. They share personal experiences about their time here and answer questions about HutchCC and the community. This is a limited group selected by the Admission Office.

In other business, the Board issued a proclamation recognizing the upcoming Adult Education and Family Literacy Act Week (September 17-23), approved several items of routine business and received an update on its strategic planning initiatives.

The next meeting of the board will be on Thursday, October 12.  The meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. in the Shears Technology Center Justice Theater.  The public is invited to attend. Board meeting agendas and meeting information can be found at www.hutchcc.edu/boardmeetings.
