By Brenna Eller

McPHERSON, Kan. —  The 2023 C.O.P.S. Fundraiser Charity Shoot on Saturday, Sept. 23, hosted by the McPherson Police Department and sponsored by Justice Lodge #457 raised a record-breaking $4,000 for the Concerns of Police Survivors.

“It was our biggest event yet, most money, and most shooters,” Police Chief Mikel T. Golden said. “We raised $2,000 and Justice Lodge #457 matched this amount for a total of $4,000.00.”

Chief Golden said they will do the event each year and will also hold Memorial Services each year sharing a story about who they lost.

“It is a great program that helps the widows and family members of law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty,” Chief Golden said.

On social media, the McPherson Police Department also gave a shoutout to Lt Reed, Lt Askren, and Lt Halbmaier for managing the courses and Captain Cummins, Captain McKean, and A.C. (Ret) K.T. Gent for being safety officers on Saturday. Detective Carr was the M.C., Secretary, and Treasurer for the event.
