Bethany College Welcomes Shaun Day as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Music

LINDSBORG, Kan. (June 17, 2024) — Bethany College is proud to announce the appointment of Shaun Day as the new Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Music. Day brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for music education, performance, and community engagement to his new role.

Day completed his Doctor of Musical Arts in instrumental conducting at the University of Washington, where he served as the director and conductor for the University of Washington Symphonic Band and the associate conductor for the Wind Ensemble. His extensive experience includes being the conductor and artistic director for the Mukilteo Community Orchestra, the annual Pacific Northwest Band Festival Coordinator, and the Washington Music Educators Association State Conference presenter. He has also been a guest clinician and conductor across the United States, Canada, and South Korea.

Originally from Cincinnati, Day earned his Bachelor of Music in music education with a concentration in trumpet performance and his Master of Music in wind conducting from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. His early career included a position as assistant band director at Turpin High School, where he developed a strong passion for teaching instrumental music.

Interim Academic Dean Tash Smith was enthusiastic about Day’s arrival, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Shaun to Bethany College. His energy, expertise, and dedication to music education will be an excellent fit for our music department. Music and Fine arts hold a special place in both our college and the Lindsborg community, and we are excited to see the positive impact Prof. Day will bring.”

Day shared his excitement about joining the Bethany College community: “I am incredibly impressed by the strong support for the arts and culture in this small community. Megan and I are thrilled to call Kansas our home, and I look forward to contributing to the vibrant musical life at Bethany College and within the Lindsborg community.”
