BARTON COUNTY, Kan. — A vehicle purchase and addition of mini split units for a multi-use office space for Central Kansas Community Corrections was approved by the Barton County Commission Tuesday.
A 2024 Ford Edge all-wheel drive vehicle was purchased from Marmie Ford for $29,400. Director Brooke Haulmark said this vehicle met all of the specifications they had and funding available through the Kansas Department of Corrections. The vehicle, which will be used for travel across the five counties served by CKCC, was located by staff after a request for proposals issued in late May drew no response.
Two mini-split HVAC units costing $15,300 through Ruby’s Inc. were purchased for what is often referred to as the old Boogaart’s building at 1806 12th Street. The space involved is primarily used as a waiting area for clients, and did not have much of anything in the way of climate control.
Commissioners approved the reappointment of Wendy Prosser to a new four year term as Barton County Appraiser, effective July 1st. The appointment and a related employment agreement had been delayed due to some paperwork issues related to training Prosser is required to have to maintain her certification through the Kansas Department of Revenue’s Property Valuation Division. By state law, appraisers in Kansas counties are appointed every four years.
Prosser has worked in the Barton County Appraiser’s Office since 2008, and worked in Barber County.
Commissioners at their meeting Tuesday awarded a bid to United Ag Services for up to 25 thousand gallons of diesel Fuel for the Barton County Landfill. United Ag’s bid of just under 2.45 a gallon was some 30 cents lower than the other bid from American Plains Co-op. United Ag will supply the fuel through their Galatia location.
Commissioners also approved the reappointment of Kathy McGinnis and Mick Lang to four year terms on the Memorial Parks Advisory Committee, which advises the Commission on care and management of the Golden Belt and Hillcrest Memorial Parks, the two county-owned cemeteries. County Works Director Chris Schartz also reported to Commissioners his crews have begun the second pass of mowing around the county.
