HUTCHINSON, Kan. – [January 23, 2026]- The City of Hutchinson is pleased to announce that West Avenue A from South Adams Street to South Madison Street will reopen to eastbound and westbound traffic on Tuesday, January 27, at noon.

This reopening marks a significant milestone in the ongoing Woodie Seat Project and restores an important east–west connection for residents.

Before traffic resumes, the public is invited to walk the project site and see the completed work up close on Tuesday, January 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This is a unique opportunity to view improvements firsthand and celebrate progress before the roadway reopens.

While Avenue A will reopen, the Woodie Seat Freeway on-ramp at the roundabout will remain closed until the Avenue C Bridge Rehabilitation Project is completed, which is anticipated in mid-summer.

In preparation for the reopening, the City’s Street Department is working to convert the temporary three-way stop at Avenue A and Adams Street back to traffic signals, with the transition expected to be completed by the end of the day on Thursday, January 22, weather permitting.

The City appreciates the community’s patience during construction and looks forward to reopening Avenue A as another step forward in the Woodie Seat Project.
