Allen STEM Magnet Students Win Middle School Wind Turbine Design Competition in 2026 World KidWind Challenge

(MADISON, Wisc.) May 28, 2026 — The “Mavericks”, a team of 6th Graders from Allen STEM Magnet School, received top-honors in the 2026 International KidWind Challenge, which took place in Madison, Wisc., May 17 through May 20. 

The “Mavericks” were one of four teams from Kansas to win top-honors and one of two Kansas teams to win the Middle School Wind Turbine Design Challenge. 

The other winning teams from Kansas include:

  • Middle School Wind Turbine Design Challenge winner:
    • WINders” from Nemaha Central Middle School in Seneca, Kansas
  • Elementary School Win Turbine Design Challenge winner:
    • Untied Shoelaces” from Prairie Ridge Elementary School in Shawnee, Kansas

The World KidWind Challenge brought 125 student teams from 21 U.S. states, Estonia, Taiwan, and Thailand to Madison, Wisconsin May 17-20, 2026. The international challenge tests student teams on their clean energy knowledge and on the performance of the wind turbines or solar homes they designed.
