IOLA, Kan. — A now former Allen County Sheriff’s Deputy has been arrested on sex crime charges. Michael Tennyson, 24 of Iola was arrested Friday evening by Kansas Bureau of Investigation agents on a requested charge of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
On Friday afternoon Hays Police had contacted the KBI and asked for their assistance in locating a 15-year-old runaway who had been missing since March 22nd. Hays officers believed the teen was with Tennyson in Iola.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Office was notified about 4 PM Friday, and quickly located the teen at Tennyson’s residence and placed her into protective custody. Iola Police, the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ray County Missouri Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the investigation.
Tennyson, who had been hired as an Allen County deputy in January, was terminated Friday once the allegations became known. Although he was booked into the Allen County Jail, Tennyson will be housed at the Bourbon County Jail in Fort Scott, a common practice under circumstances such as this.
