HOISINGTON, Kan. – Barton County authorities are looking for a man who allegedly fired a shot at a Hoisington police vehicle during a pursuit early Saturday morning.
The chase began when a vehicle being investigated by an officer for suspicious activity took off and fled east of K-4 at a high rate of speed. Barton County Sheriff’s deputies picked up the chase which ended when the vehicle crashed into a utility box in Claflin.
Dashcam video indicated at least three shots were fired at the deputy during the incident. The driver of the vehicle, Rylan Witmer of Wilson, was arrested on felony flee and elude and other charges, he is free on a $10 thousand bond.
A passenger in the vehicle, identified as William Thomas Fredrick Jr, 38, fled the scene and is suspected of being the shooter. His last known address was in the Salina area. Fredrick is a white male, 5-6 with a medium build, 165 pounds with brown hair and eyes. He is being sought on charges that could include attempted first murder and aggravated assault.
