HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Reno County Commissioners Tuesday on a 3-2 vote agreed to proceed with the long-discussed remodeling project at the Reno County Courthouse. The decision comes with changes from a proposal that had been recommended earlier.
Deleted from the plans to save on expenses were a walkway along the west wall of the main area of the courthouse to connect the two mezzanines, the remodeling of a second-floor space for a conference room, and the deletion of a dumbwaiter between the 4th and 5th floors.
These cuts bring the cost of the project, to be done by Ward Davis Builders, to $1.867 million, reduced from a December bid that was closer to $2.2 million.
The no votes came from Commissioners John Whitsel and Randall Parks who felt the project was still too large in scope for them to support it.
