The Hutchinson High boys soccer team continued to impress through the Titan Classic early-season tournament in Wichita.
The Salthawks went 1-2 and in sixth place at the Titan, but they played well against stiff competition. Hutch started the tournament with a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Newton, a Class 5A state semifinalist last season. Then, the Salthawks beat Emporia 4-1 before falling in the tournament finale 2-0 to Hays.
The Salthawks then start this week with a commanding 4-1 win over Salina Central. Diego Ruiz scored twice, and Trae England and Griffon Galyon had one apiece.
The Salthawks are now 3-3 and will take a trip Thursday to play a strong Andover Central team.
Golf – The Salthawks played in the tough Newton Invitational on Monday and came in sixth place, finishing the nine-hole event with a 225.
Brynn Hall led the Salthawks with a 55, tying for 21st place. Lydia Patterson and Ava Burlie were one stroke behind, tying for 26th. Maddi Rayl carded a 58, Lily Rodriguez had a 63, and Jordan Pratt finished with a 65.
The Salthawks will travel Monday to Salina.
Tennis –Â The Salthawks came in sixth place on Sept. 7 at the Eisenhower Invitation, with two entries scoring in the team standings. Ellie Foos won her placement match 8-2 in the No. 2 singles division, while the No. 2 doubles team of Addison Lewis and Rylee Miller also won their placement match, 8-1.
Up next for the Salthawks is a trip Thursday to Derby.
Volleyball –Â The Salthawks dropped a pair of competitive conference matches on Tuesday at the Salthawk Activity Center. The Salthawks lost 25-22, 25-19 to Derby, and then fell in tight three-set match, 17-25, 25-18, 25-16.
The losses dropped the Salthawks’ record to 4-7. They will next play Saturday when they travel to Maize.
Cross country –Â The Salthawks competed on Saturday the Emporia Invitational. The boys came in 16th place with 497 points. Ethan Hancock led the Salthawks with a finish in 19 minutes, 6.4 seconds.
Avery Tecklenburg led the girls team with a finish in 24:16.0
