alt=""BURLINGTON, Kan. — Kansas State University Research and Extension, in partnership with Coffey County Extension, Lyon County Extension, and Frontier Extension District, will host the SEK Ag Applicator Training Day on Tuesday, December 1, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the 4-H Building at Kelley Park, 605 3rd Street, Burlington, Kansas.

This one-day training program is designed for pesticide applicators and agricultural professionals seeking current information on application technology, pesticide stewardship, herbicide performance, regulatory compliance, and integrated weed management. Attendees will receive five Category 1A recertification credits and one Kansas Department of Agriculture Core credit.

The program will begin with “Spray Drone Technology for Precision Pesticide Application in Agriculture” presented by Dr. Deepak Joshi, Kansas State University Extension Precision Agriculture Specialist. Participants will learn about current agricultural spray-drone capabilities, site-specific pesticide application, operational considerations, and factors influencing application performance, including weather conditions, spray coverage, efficiency, and safety.

Dr. Sarah Ganske, K-State Extension Weed Science Specialist, will present “Getting the Most Out of Glufosinate.” This session will focus on how glufosinate works and management practices applicators can use to maximize herbicide effectiveness and improve weed control outcomes.

The program will also feature “A Recipe for Species Protection,” presented by Frannie Miller, K-State Pesticide Safety and IPM Coordinator. The presentation will discuss the Endangered Species Act, Bulletins Live Two requirements, and important compliance considerations for pesticide applicators.

Dr. Molly Reichenborn will present “Integrated Weed Management in Range and Pasture.” Attendees will review current herbicide options, application techniques, and integrated management approaches including grazing, burning, and mowing strategies for controlling common pasture and rangeland weeds.

The final session, “Disease, Deficiency, or Drift? Diagnosing Crop Symptoms Before You Spray,” will be presented by Dr. Cristie Preston, Assistant Professor of Sustainable Cropping Systems at K-State’s Southeast Research and Extension Center.

This presentation will provide a practical framework for distinguishing between disease symptoms, nutrient deficiencies, and herbicide injury in corn, soybean, and wheat, helping applicators avoid unnecessary pesticide applications and improve decision-making.

Registration is $30 per person and includes all training sessions. Participants are encouraged to register by November 23. To register, scan the QR code on the event flyer or call the Coffey County Extension Office at 620-364-5313.
