The Hillsboro Trojans overcame a slow start in the first half to defeat the Ellinwood Eagles 41-8 in the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs on Friday night.
After Ellinwood scored a touchdown on their opening possession, the Hillsboro defense would rise to the occasion and not allow another point for the rest of the game. Hillsboro’s offense was led by senior quarterback Zayne Haslett, as he would have two big touchdown runs of 73 and 41 yards to give Hillsboro a 14-8 lead at halftime. Hillsboro would score four more touchdowns in the second half to close out the game.
Haslett led the way with one passing touchdown, while he amassed 274 rushing yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns.
Ellinwood finishes its season with a 1-7 record, while Hillsboro improves to 6-3. The Trojans will travel to Inman next week in a rematch from earlier in the season.
