COLBY, Kan. – Helping their teams pick up wins to set up a top 15 showdown this week, Hutchinson Community College football players Rayvelle Leak and Aiden Bruce, along with Dodge City Community College football player Jahtavious Gaines, have all been named the Week 10 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Football Players of the Week.
Rayvelle Leak (Hutchinson) – KJCCC Football Offensive Player of the Week
Blue Dragon sophomore running back Ravelle Leak became the first Hutchinson running back to surpass 200 yards in a game in two seasons, leading the number one-ranked Blue Dragons to a 52-24 victory over NEO on Saturday. Leak rushed 19 times for 203 yards and a 65-yard touchdown run. Leak averaged 10.7 yards per carry against the Golden Norse and had five carries for 10 or more yards, including two for 50 or more yards.
Jahtavious Gaines (Dodge City) – KJCCC Football Defensive Player of the Week
Dodge City football picked up a victory at home in a wild west shootout with Highland. The Conquistadors’ defense made some strong plays in the win as Jahtavious Gaines showed out against his former team by making two interceptions, while recording five tackles and blocking an extra point that the Conqs scooped up and returned for two points. Gaines first interception was in the red zone, stopping a potential scoring opportunity for Highland.
Aiden Bruce (Hutchinson) – KJCCC Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Sophomore kick returner Aiden Bruce tied a Hutchinson football single-season record with his third punt return for a touchdown this season, helping the top-ranked Blue Dragons to a 52-24 win over NEO on Saturday. Bruce’s first of three returns on Saturday went back for a 58-yard touchdown, which tied Cordarrelle Patterson and Kordell Gouldsby for the most kickoff/punt returns for a touchdown in single-season history.
