Joseph Nelson Short, 48 passed away at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
Joey was born on February 28, 1978 in Minden, Louisiana to Herman Short Jr. and Doris (Stevens) Short. Through his life, Joey worked as a roofer, roofing countless homes in Louisiana and Colorado. Joey was known as a loving and happy jokester. He was a wonderful artist drawing numerous portraits and pieces of abstract art. He loved playing his guitar, scraping metal, and working on his friends and family’s cars. He also had a sweet tooth; he could always be found enjoying a bowl of ice cream or a Little Debbie’s snack. Most of all he loved his family especially his 9 grandchildren.
Joey is preceded in death by his father, Herman Short Jr.
His memory will carry on with his children, Joseph Michael Short and wife, Jacey of Peyton, Colorado, Alexia Berten and husband Gary of Chanute, Kansas, mother, Doris Short of Chanute, Kansas, sister, Linda (Donnie) Addison, brother, Kevin (Stephanie) Short, and 9 grandchildren.
Cremation will take place under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home and no services are scheduled at this time.
