The Blue Dragons improved to 8-6-3 overall, including 7-3-3 in the KJCCC. The Blue Dragons are locked into third place in the Jayhawk Conference and will play host to an opening-round Region 6 Tournament game next weekend at the Salthawk Soccer Complex. Van Fleet scored 6:34 into the game with the Busters, making a great one-on-one move to get past Garden City keeper Isabelle Barke for a 1-0 lead. Montunrayo Ojobare was credited with the assist.
Just shy of 3 full minutes later, Van Fleet scored from a Poppy Smith assist for a 2-0 with 25:25 to play in the half.
Then with 14:51 to go in the first half, Van Fleet headed in an Olivia Tamaki cross for a 3-0 Hutchinson lead.
That goal helped Van Fleet the career 20-goal plateau. She is the 21st player in Blue Dragon history with 20-plus career goals.
Tamaki had a goal and an assist against Garden City. She scored the Dragons’ fourth goal just 2:33 into the second half from Ojobare’s second assist of the game.
The Blue Dragons outshot Garden City 23-14, including 11-9 in shots on goal. The Dragons had six corner kicks to Garden City’s one.
Garden City broke the Blue Dragon shutout in the 66th minutes on an Abi Platt goal.
