Mary Carolyn Sampson (Smith), 83, passed away on October 12, 2026, at her home in Eureka, Kansas.

Mary was born on April 12, 1943, in Iola, Kansas, to Francis and Harriet (Hulbert) Smith. She grew up in Iola and graduated from Iola High School with the class of 1961. On May 11, 1961, she married Richard William Sampson. Together, they raised three children, Phylis Lynn, Deborah Kay, and Kenneth William. They shared 39 years together until Richard's passing in 2000.

In 2007 Mary met her lifelong partner of 19 years, Glen Gibson after being introduced by mutual friends.

Mary found joy in gardening, camping, fishing, and browsing garage sales. She had a love for flowers, especially sunflowers, and enjoyed the beauty they brought to her days. Her love of the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life remained a part of who she was.

She is survived by her partner of 19 years, Glen Gibson; children Phylis and husband Dennis Scott, Kenneth and wife Laurie Sampson; five granddaughters; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister Roberta.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Harriet Smith; brother, Jim Smith; daughter Deborah; and one great-grandchild, Alaric Womack.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola, Kansas. Burial will follow at Geneva Cemetery.

Memorials may be made out to the Eureka VFW Post 2712, and left in the care of the funeral home.
