NEW ORLEANS, La. – For the second straight week, Hutchinson Community College men’s cross country runner Letsepa Prince Madume has been named the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 1 National Athlete of the Week on Monday, October 12th.

Madume’s award comes after putting together a second consecutive race victory, posting a time of 24:11.10 to win the Fort Hays State University Tiger Open 8,000-meter race by 2.4 seconds over Christian Darrah, a former Fort Hays State and Hutchinson Community College runner. Madume has won two races this season, also picking up a victory at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic to begin the season in August.

his is the seventh time that a male athlete from Hutchinson has been named M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week in cross country. Madume was also honored last week in joining Titus Kiprotich (2025), Teagan Flanagan (2020) and Andrew Kibet (three times in 2018) in that regard. The award marks the third time that a KJCCC men’s cross country runner has earned USTFCCCA National honors in 2026, with Madume’s two accolades being joined by Dodge City’s Josue Vega, who earned the honor on September 14th.
